Maybe you wouldn't have bought a Mandy Moore record five years ago, but you might just want this one. It's grown-up and sophisticated - sure, she's no quirky cool Regina Spektor, but the new Mandy sound fits cozily alongside Leona Naess, or one of Rachael Yamagata's smart girl piano ballads. She's been collaborating with impressive artists, including Rachael herself, respected country-folk songwriter Lori McKenna, and quirky duo The Weepies, who loved the experience: "If it were a noncelebrity making this record, the buzz would be that this girl is the real deal." These songs are tailor-made for the mood-setting montage during the last 10 minutes of Grey's Anatomy, with melancholy lyrics like "I know you love me in your own way." People looking for dirt on Mandy's breakup with Mr. Braff will no doubt pick the words clean.

"The lyrics are my words," she says, shrugging and not offering any clues. "I know it's going to be a tricky road to navigate in terms of, 'Well, what's this song about?' All I can say is, you know sometimes things hit you and you want to write about them."

Mandy Moore - Extraordinary

Truth is I adore this girl. I guess in a way I grew up with her. When she was making teeny pop and dancing around with Candy, I enjoyed it. (I was 12, for God's sake. It was a phase. And yes, I bought her first CD.) And we both started to grow up, and she was making beautiful ballads on the soundtrack of A Walk to Remember, and reducing me to buckets of tears with that movie. And it's still one of my all time favorite movies. I watch it every time I need a good cry. And now my musical taste has evolved to Rachael Yamagata, Leona Naess and The Weepies and whoa, she's right there with me. I have to say the new song doesn't impress me all that much though. It's good, but it still sounds a tad like the radio friendly pop so frequently shoved in our faces nowadays. However, I am looking forward to the rest of the album. She truly has a lovely voice. Let me know what you think about the song.

EDIT: Oops! Forgot to mention. Her new album is called Wild Hope, and is scheduled to be released on May 8.

Prison Break and Heroes time! Yay!
Music:: mandy moore; extraordinary
Mood:: 'mellow' mellow

I totally love Mandy. There's something so lovely and friendly about her, and she seems like such a cool person. I own a few of her albums, and I'll definitely look out for the new one :)

Yeah, she seem really down to earth as compared to all the other celebrities/artistes her age. Forgot to mention this in my post, her album is called Wild Hope, and it's coming on on May 8. I'm definitely looking forward to more music from her.

Totally snagging this, I love me some Mandy Moore, her last album (the one with In My Pocket, etc) is still one of my favorites, even if I'm a little embarrassed to admit it heh.

I adore her voice. I love the songs from AWTR that she sang, but I've never tried anything else. Oh yeah and her in Princess Diaries, that songs funny =P.

I refuse to be ashamed of how much I adore her. Hell, I own Chasing Liberty for christ sakes. (Although that was more for Piven sake than hers I have to say.) And I loved her on Entourage. I've liked her since Candy and In my Pocket. She's adorable.
I like the new song. Less Pop, but still accessible to those of her fans that are still in that phase. And the review is very positive so I'll definitely be giving it a listen when it comes out. Thanks for sharing!

LOL. I still haven't seen Chasing Liberty. Been wanting to, but never got around to it. =P

You're welcome! I'm definitely looking forward to her new songs.

I... like it. I'm usually more a fan of her ballads, but I like this. It doesn't sound really radio-pop to me, but that might be a different-country/different-radio thing (to counter my opinion, I do mostly listen to rock stations). Thanks loads for the upload, I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise. :)

It still feels a little ordinary and safe to me... But I do still like it, and I'm looking forward to more stuff from her. She definitely has talent. =)

I downloaded the song, thanks for sharing :) I havent listened to much of her music except the songs on the A Walk to Remember soundtrack but I loved those! The new song is ok but I agree with you about how it sounds kinda like radio friendly pop. Lol, I should listen to it more though. Sometimes, it takes me a while to love a song.

You're welcome. Yeah, I listened to it a few more times and I'm starting to like it a bit more.

I really like that song. Though I've always loved Mandy. I agree A Walk To Remember is definitely a cry fest. I love it though. It's one of my favorites too.

I like most of Mandy's movies though. I don't think I've one that I didn't like yet. There's a few I haven't gotten around to seeing yet but I like her anyway.
