I'm defending Dean - who would have thought? =P

Another person on my flist was like - "Why is Dean quitting? Why isn't he doing anything and just wanting to stop hunting?" Here's my theory: As far as the family business, the keyword there is family . Dean hunted because when it came right down to it, it was protecting his family. Sooner or later all those hunts were going to bring them to the demon. Now when Jessica died, hunting became a mission for Sam, like it was for John, but still hunting meant protecting his family for Dean. He was never obsessed with this demon.

Now with John gone and this revelation that Sam might turn evil, Dean needs to come up with a different way to protect his family. Why hunt when his family is gone?

With both the guy from last night and the twin in "Simon Said" neither one of them were evil until the yellow-eyed demon started haunting them. The twin was full on evil, the guy from last night was on the brink. But obviously, the YED can't haunt Sam the same way. So maybe Dean thinks that the more they dive into this hunt for the demon, the more likely Sam will become evil. If the demon can find a way to manipulate Sam, it will, and that will cause him to become evil. Therefore, Dean wants to stop to protect his family. Nothing was ever more important than protecting Sammy. And now that they have no plan of action against the demon because the colt is gone, his next idea is just to lie low.

But that's just me. Sorry to write a novel in your journal. =)
